Nurse Aide Training Program
- Submit an enrollment and financial application for admission.
- Submit copy of photo I.D. (i.e., driver’s license.)
- Submit copy of High School Diploma or GED
- Take the TABE-WF Test ($10.00 fee required)
- A minimum score of 7 is required on the TABE
Students achieving minimum passing scores on the TABE-WF Test will be scheduled for an interview with the Director of Admissions to review Allied Health program curriculums.
Upon acceptance into the chosen Allied Health Program of Study, the student will be required to submit the following documentation:
- Make financial arrangements and/or apply for funding from the various sources available through Compass Career College if student qualifies.
- Submit Immunization Record including the following:
- TB Skin Test
- MMR
- History of Varicella or evidence of Varicella Vaccine
- Childhood polio vaccine
- Tetnus/Diptheria injection within last 10 years
- Hepatitis B vaccine series with titer to indicate adequate vaccine received.

Educational Objectives
This program is designed to prepare students for certification as a Nurse Aide in the State of Louisiana. Students will learn theory and develop clinical skills during this program. Once a student graduates, he/she will be prepared for entry level positions as a Nurse Aide in long term care (nursing home), home health, rehabilitation units, skilled nursing units and hospitals.

Course Objectives
Student has the ability to:
- Assist patients in adjusting to altered levels of well-being.
- Demonstrate respect for the patient.
- Continue self-development as a member of the health care team.
- Provide basic nursing care skills to a diverse population with emphasis on the elderly and those who are dependent for personal care.
- Utilize education learned in basic anatomy and physiology, restorative services, residents/patient rights, cognitive impairment, mental health and social service needs.
- Develop communication and interpersonal skills.
- Employ infection control practices.
- Provide personal care skills according to individual patient needs.
- Knowledge of safety practices.
- Recognize abnormal changes in body functioning and the importance of reporting such changes.
- Recognize members of the health care team and know the importance of each role.
- Understand the differences of working in a controlled environment (facility) versus working in a patient’s home.
